2010 October Cover Wisconsin Natural Resources Magazine

I'm very pleased to announce my newest cover on the Wisconsin Natural Resources Magazine as a Wood County Wildlife Area badger. This photo was taken during the mating season in August. The badger photographed is a female. I have been around badgers enough during mating season that I can identify the sex simply by their behaviors. The female badger has a very mellow and a near tame behavior and easy to photograph where as the male badger is very aggressive and has a point to prove towards anything or anyone that crosses its path. The male badger isn't a good subject to photograph, I have been chased on several occasions while a female was present. To read this article online click here for the link.

Buena Vista Grassland Wildlife Area

Last evening I was at the Buena Vista Grassland in cental Wisconsin and witnessed a large display of prairie knats. As sun set small tornadoes of insects started to pop up throughout the flat terrain. Here are a few photos from the evening. Also I felt creative and took a photograph of some bluestem grass using a blue flash while exposing for the moon.

Spring Marsh - Wood County Wildlife Area

This is one of my favorite marshes in central Wisconsin. There is always something going on in this area. Trumpeter swans nest in this marsh as well as sandhill cranes and a variety of waterfowl. Soon this marsh will fill with signs of timber wolves, black bear, raccoon, mink a bobcat from time to time. These preditors move in when the marshland birds hatch their clutches thus looking for a quick meal.

New Wisconsin Endangered Resources License Plate

On Wednesday April 7th I attended the release of the new Wisconsin endangered resources license plate in Madison. The photograph featuring the badger was one of my photographs taken from the Wood County Wildlife Area. This badger photograph is one of my most important photographs; creating an emphasis on endangered resources in Wisconsin. It is projected that the new plate design will generate over one million dollars of extra revenue for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources; protecting important land and wildlife throughout the Wisconsin wilderness.
